Women in Conservation
Across the Anambas Islands, women are emerging as guardians of both culture and the coast. Through the Women in
Conservation program, Anambas Foundation empowers local mothers to deepen their connection with the sea, learning how
the health of their marine ecosystems sustains their families and future generations.
At the same time, they transform nature's gifts responsibly: crafting ecoprint textiles using mangrove leaves and other
sustainable materials. Every piece they create carries a story of conservation, because the process itself helps protect
mangrove forests, vital shields for coastal communities.
These handcrafted "batik"-like textiles are then sold to support their livelihoods, proving that economic empowerment
and environmental protection can grow hand in hand. Women of Anambas are not only preserving the beauty of their
islands, they are shaping a future where the ocean remains a source of life, pride, and prosperity.
