MARINE CONSERVATION
Anambas holds a marine paradise of coral reefs and biodiversity, now under threat
from climate change and marine debris
More than 1.2 million hectares in the Anambas Islands region are designated as Marine Recreational Park Anambas
Island (MRPAI). This means that the regency is protected and managed through a zoning system.
Despite being a protected area, the Anambas marine ecosystem is not immune to environmental problems like global
warming and marine debris. In addition, the coral reefs are still recovering from destructive fishing practices of
the past.
The Anambas Foundation is committed to protecting and rehabilitating the marine ecosystem around the Anambas Islands
through our Marine Conservation program. We work together with the local communities, government, and other marine
conservation organisations as well as relevant stakeholders.
